The triggering of emoting by stimulating the amygdala was discovered, during human experiments at the Monteal Neurological Institute, when a neurologist would electrically stimulate the area over the amygdala on awake patients undergoing epilipsy surgery and they would start to emote. They would start to laugh and then cry for no particular reason. They were just emoting because of the stimulation of the stored emotional information in this region of the brain.
